Weather We Walk operates the website weatherwewalk.com and its online store, including all related information, content, features, tools, products and services (together, the “Services”). Weather We Walk sells walking, weather and movement essentials to customers in the United Kingdom. Our online store is powered by Shopify.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect your personal information when you visit or use the Services, place an order, create an account, sign up for emails or contact us. It also explains your rights under UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Weather We Walk is the controller of the personal information described in this policy, except where we say otherwise.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If there is a conflict between our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, this Privacy Policy controls in relation to how we collect, process and disclose your personal information.

Information we collect

“Personal information” means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you. Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect the following.

Information collected at checkout

  • Contact and delivery details, such as your name, email address, phone number, billing address and delivery address.
  • Order details, such as the products you buy, quantities, prices, delivery method, discount codes used and any notes you add to your order.
  • Payment confirmation details, such as the payment method type, the last digits of your card and confirmation that a payment succeeded. We do not see or store your full card number (see “Payment processing” below).

Account and contact information

  • Account information, if you create a customer account, such as your name, email address, saved addresses, order history and preferences.
  • Communications with us, such as the information you give us when you use our contact form or email us (for example your name, email address, order number, subject and message).

Information collected automatically

  • Device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, items added to your basket, and how and when you use the Services. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies and analytics” below).

Marketing preferences

  • If you sign up for our emails, we collect your email address and a record of your consent.

How and why we use your personal information

We use your personal information for the following purposes. The lawful basis we rely on under UK GDPR is shown for each.

  • To process and fulfil your order — taking payment, arranging dispatch and delivery, sending order and delivery updates, providing tracking information, and handling returns, refunds and exchanges. Lawful basis: performance of a contract with you.
  • To provide customer support — responding to your enquiries and resolving problems with orders. Lawful basis: performance of a contract, and our legitimate interest in helping customers.
  • To run and manage your account, if you create one. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
  • To send marketing emails — only where you have given your consent. Lawful basis: consent.
  • To keep the Services secure and prevent fraud — including checking orders and payments for suspected fraud. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in protecting our business and customers, and legal obligations.
  • To understand and improve the Services — for example, using analytics to see which pages are popular. Lawful basis: consent where required for non-essential cookies, otherwise our legitimate interests.
  • To meet legal obligations — such as keeping tax and accounting records and responding to lawful requests from authorities. Lawful basis: legal obligation.

Payment processing

Payments are processed by Shopify and the payment providers available at checkout (for example Shopify Payments, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, depending on what is offered). Your card details are entered directly into the payment provider’s secure systems; Weather We Walk does not see or store your full card number. Payment providers process your information in accordance with their own privacy notices and may use it to prevent fraud and meet their legal obligations.

Order fulfilment and delivery

To get your order to you, we share the information needed for fulfilment — such as your name, delivery address, phone number (where provided), and the items ordered — with the companies that pick, pack and deliver orders.

CJdropshipping and other fulfilment partners

Many of our products are supplied and dispatched by third-party fulfilment partners, including CJdropshipping. When you order these products, we share your order and delivery details with the relevant fulfilment partner so they can prepare and send your parcel, and so tracking information can be provided to you.

International fulfilment, including from China

Where a product is internationally fulfilled, it is dispatched from outside the United Kingdom — usually from China — and your order and delivery details are transferred to our fulfilment partner and their couriers in that country. Product pages state whether an item is internationally fulfilled or ships from UK stock. Some items may be dispatched from a fulfilment partner’s UK warehouse.

Couriers

Your name, delivery address and contact details are shared with the couriers and postal services that carry your parcel, including couriers in the country of dispatch and in the UK, so they can deliver it and contact you about delivery if needed.

Who we share personal information with

We only share personal information where needed for the purposes described in this policy. This includes sharing with:

  • Shopify, which hosts our online store and processes information on our behalf to provide the Services (see “Our relationship with Shopify” below).
  • Payment providers, to process payments and prevent fraud.
  • Suppliers and fulfilment partners, including CJdropshipping, to prepare and dispatch orders.
  • Couriers and postal services, to deliver orders and provide tracking.
  • Service providers that help us run the business, such as email, analytics, IT and customer-support tools.
  • Professional advisers and authorities, where required by law, to establish or defend legal claims, or to comply with lawful requests.
  • A buyer or successor, if all or part of our business is sold, merged or restructured.

We do not sell your personal information.

Our relationship with Shopify

The Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of the Services in order to provide and improve them. Information you submit through the Services is transmitted to and shared with Shopify, and with third parties that may be located outside the UK. In some cases, Shopify may use information about your interactions with our store, with other merchants and with Shopify to provide certain features; in those cases Shopify is responsible for that processing. To learn more about how Shopify uses personal information and the rights you may have, see the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy. You can also exercise certain rights through the Shopify Privacy Portal.

International transfers

Because we use international fulfilment partners and service providers such as Shopify, your personal information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries outside the United Kingdom, including China and the United States. These countries may not have data protection laws equivalent to those in the UK. Where UK data protection law requires it, we take steps intended to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for these transfers, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to make the Services work (for example, to remember what is in your basket and to keep checkout secure), to remember your preferences, and to understand how the Services are used. Strictly necessary cookies are always active. Where required by UK law, we ask for your consent before using non-essential cookies, such as analytics or marketing cookies, and you can change your choices at any time where a cookie preferences option is provided. You can also control cookies through your browser settings; blocking some cookies may affect how the Services work.

Email marketing

We only send marketing emails — such as product updates, seasonal walking advice and launch news — if you have opted in, for example by signing up through our website. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. If you opt out, we may still send you service emails about your orders or account.

How long we keep personal information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, including to fulfil orders, provide customer support, meet legal, tax and accounting requirements, resolve disputes and enforce our terms. How long we keep information depends on the type of information and why we hold it.

Security

We use appropriate measures to protect personal information, and Shopify provides secure hosting and checkout. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please do not send sensitive information through unsecured channels.

Your rights under UK data protection law

Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights, subject to certain conditions and exceptions:

  • Right of access — to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — to ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Right to erasure — to ask us to delete your personal information.
  • Right to restrict processing — to ask us to limit how we use your information.
  • Right to data portability — to receive certain information in a structured, commonly used format, or to ask us to transfer it to another organisation.
  • Right to object — to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, and to object at any time to direct marketing.
  • Right to withdraw consent — where we rely on consent (for example, for marketing emails), you can withdraw it at any time. This does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew consent.

How to make a request

To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or to exercise any other right, email us at weatherwewalk@gmail.com with the subject line “Privacy request”, or use the form on our contact page. Please tell us what you are asking for and include the email address you used with us and, if relevant, your order number. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will respond within the time limits required by UK law, which is usually one month. You can also manage some requests through the Shopify Privacy Portal.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how we handle your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve them. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Children

The Services are not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Third-party websites and links

The Services may link to websites or platforms run by third parties. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their privacy notices. Including a link does not mean we endorse the third party.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to our practices or to legal or regulatory requirements. We will post the updated policy on weatherwewalk.com, update the “Last updated” date and give notice where the law requires it.
